Gift ideas for awesome girls
I'm tired of seeing those lame "For that Special Girl" Christmas gift idea lists featuring Sex and the City boxed DVD sets, self pedicure kits, or fancy leather driving gloves. Come on, can we not do better than that, internet? Most females I know honestly do not need a pile of soap or any more scented candles. And just because I have a uterus doesn't mean I want 'Definitely, Maybe' on Bluray.
Instead I'm going to redefine the "For Her" gift idea list. I mean clearly I'm still stereotyping an entire gender, but in a new, refreshing way, right? So if you're at a loss as to what you buy your special female friend who is awesome and wonderful, let me give my suggestions.
Gift givers: Control B this post! Or control-shift-L. Or control-D. Or whatever you bookmarking keyboard shortcut is. What I'm saying is bookmark it.
Gift recipients: send an email to people who might otherwise buy you bad gifts. Make the subject be "ahem ahem" and then just copy and paste this link. Control-c, control-v. If we want to keep with keyboard shortcuts which I obviously do.
Now, might I suggest items from my list of things that most awesome girls I know would like:
1. A really pretty Sigg. Aren't they stylish? Also, I have had mine for about a year and a half and water still tastes delicious in it.2. Hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, and a bottle of Kahlua or Baileys. How warm and snuggley! More fun than the slanket, that's for sure.
3. A cool laptop sleeve. (example)(example)(example)
4. Books she loves but doesn't own even though they wouldn't be great to own, hey? For this, might I suggest checking if she has a wish list on Amazon. If she is computer savvy, then I should sincerely hope she has a wish list on amazon.
5. A Flickr pro account if the poor thing doesn't have one.
6. Homemade treats, particularly healthy ones. Like, use whole wheat flour at the very least.
7. A season of 30 Rock. everybody should love this show. Or if they already have it (or, unimaginably, they don't like that show) then Veronica Mars season 1.
8. Great board games. Cranium and Taboo are super starter games if she doesn't already own them, but for the board game connoisseur let me direct you to Blokus, Set, or Gobblet!
9. A subscription to an awesome magazine like Runner's World, National Geographic, Wired or Women's Health.
10. Super fun kitchen stuff. I feel like I'm going to have to defend putting kitchen items on a list of things girls like, but really let's be honest, a pretty spice kit or a good spatula that doesn't get gross on the end, or colourful and really sharp knives, or something made for flipping meat on the bbq so she doesn't burn her fingers because she uses a fork and salad tong, a matching set of good mixing bowls... it makes cooking and eating healthily all the more fun, am I wrong?
11. A terrific watch. Jewelery has no purpose at all but watches are both pretty and practical. If your girl is the sporting type, perhaps those cool ones with heart monitors or GPS or something really fun, you know?
12. Really fun coffee table books that will probably be good conversation starters (like 14000 Things to be Happy About or If)
13. This lululemon jacket. Everybody really ought to own at least one. They are so high quality and they fit so well and are so gosh darn attractive. (Also, jackets in general are awesome because they often don't have to fit properly, like awesome rain coats or running jackets are good ideas)
14. Lastly, get her Etsy password and check all her favourited items.
Yeah? Do you agree that this is a list most A+ girls would be happy about? I guess other than the lulu jacket, this is really just a list of things most A+ people would be happy about, hey?

I would love ALL of those things, except I still kind of want a slanket.
YES! I seriously might pass this list along. Great stuff! Can I add "Puzzles" to your board games? Because I really want a huge, fun puzzle for Christmas... I am clearly awesome.
I've been telling my parents for years that I have a wish list on Amazon and they still don't get it!
You are totally awesome. I've been having serious gift-block for all my friends this year and this post has given me fantastic ideas!
Thank you!
p.s. us canadian girls are always happy to receive more things to keep us warm...scarves, mittens, puppies
This is awesome. I am totally with you. Although I do love SATC. I'm sorry! I just do!
I also have every board game you mentioned, though. Because I am awesome.
also: if she's on delicious look though her tags -- personally i have a "desire" tag but my BF thinks using this is cheating.
I *really* want one of those water bottles.
dudette! and I just saw there's A GERMAN ONE!
need. will buy.now.
Well done indeed. I'd also like to add that Banana Republic has great cashmere sweaters this season that are oober-comfy and fit everyone well.
AMEN. SUCH good ideas lise...i have enough candles to last me a lifetime!
haha - this is hilariuosly lisa-themed! But YES, it is still a wonderful list - albeit maybe you should rename it "for awesome lisa-like girls" - The prime example is the magazines you listed!
And I have always wanted a slanket.
THANK YOU!
I feel much better about shopping for my sister (only one of them) now!
These are wonderful ideas! Thanks for helping those of us with Holiday gifting block.
Dude. I love you already but love you extra more for this post. I'm all stocked up on scented candles for the next 30 years, but I do need the new Season of 30 Rock. I'm sharing this list with everyone I love! (meaning: everyone who buys me presents. mwahahaha!)
I want a slanket too! They just sound so cuddly.
Love the idea about the board games-- I think they always make good gifts.
wowza, great list! I definitely just got some super good ideas from your list for the hard-to-buy-for people on mine. Thanks!
p.s. Would you believe I've been following your blog for awhile without commenting? I think I got to yours from Steph's... or else to hers from yours? I can't remember. Anyway, hi from Faith, Hope and Love :)
Hey Lisa!
I have a lot of fun reading your blog and thought it was about time I left a comment.
I loved this post because for years now I have been giving my parents a list of "what-not-to-buy"s including picture frames and candles which I do not need or want. These ideas however are things I could put on my "actually-buy" list.
Thanks and I hope you're having fun this term!!

Best list ever! I'm going to use this as a starting point for my Christmas shopping. (Yes, starting point. Please don't judge...)
omg, this is SUPER HELPFUL. i literally have not bought 1 xmas present yet - or, uh, even come up with one idea - so this is MUY HELPFUL.
holy eff, my stupid verification word is "palin"
GREEN WINDBREAKERS FOR EVERYONE ON MY LIST!
haha ok I'll stop now, promise. But if you are looking for something for that special guy? A cool pocket knife. Every guy loves pocket knives. Not a cheap swiss army one, I said cool one.
I love this list! And I am actually getting season one of "30 rock" for christmas from my brother! I've never seen it before but I'm sure I'll love it.
I LOVE this list. I asked for a slow cooker for Christmas last year and everyone thought I was kidding and I had to go buy it for myself. I bet I'll have to do that with some of these things, too :)
De-lurking, although I may have done so already. I FREAKING LOVE this list! I'm just going to pop over to my email and control-c, control-v!
For serious. Also, I love your blog. It makes me happy. My most favorite (which I realize is too much grammatical incorrectness for most people) post ever is Rules for Non-Single Girls.
haha that slanket made me laugh so hard. It looks like a muu muu. Also, I loove Blockus! I always play it at my friends house with her mom!
