Summer 2008 Race Schedule
I've just spent the past couple hours planning out my race schedule for this summer.
It's tricky business: navigating midterms, finals, my sister's wedding, potentially camp... but I think I've got it all sorted out.
I've included this year's (or 2007's, when 2008's was unavailable) souvenir t-shirt designs, because that's clearly the most important factor in the race decision process. Right?
May 10: Storm the Trent
An adventure race that I'm doing with my dad.
Mountain Bike 20km
Trail Run 6km
Paddle 9km
June 1: Milton Sprint Distance Tri
The women's series I did last year canceled their first race of the season. Silly. So I'm doing this one. It's nicely local.
750m Swim
30km Bike
7.5km Run
July 20: Niagara Sprint Distance Tri
700m Swim
25km Bike
7km Run
August 17: Toronto Island Sprint Distance Tri
This is a fun location. It's a bit further than regular sprint distances, which is cool. My exams end on the 16 and so I'm sort of wondering if this is that great of an idea. Will I be training the 2 weeks before? Well, not as hardcore. But you're supposed to take is easy the week before, right? Right? I haven't registered for this one yet... I might not. It's the most expensive one, too. So. We'll see. And I'm doing Wasaga like 2 weeks later.
750m Swim
30km Bike
7.5 Run
Sept 3: Wasaga Beach Olympic Distance Tri
I did this one last year, and they had to cancel the swim portion. That sucked. But I want to do an Olympic distance this year (my first!) and I think saving it until the end of the season is a smart move.
1500m Swim
40km Bike
10km Run
Sept 28: Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Half Marathon
I did this one last year, and it was pretty sweet.
Running 13.1 miles (21km)

before you say it- the lunch thing doesn't start until Monday!
...what about the lunch th... just kidding!
I'm very jealous of the schedule, apart from the swimming bits that never has been my thing.
Wow, very impressive. I'm not atheletic in the slightest. Just curious, but how long, years-wise, does it take a person to be in physical shape to do those?
Will you be my personal trainer?
James- ME NEITHER. but then I look lessons, then more lessons, then a training session... and then what do you know? I love swimming now.
Andrea- it's hard to say because I don't think I've ever had to "start from scratch"... so that last year when I decided to start doing tris, I was already in good enough shape to run like, 5km at a decent pace. You know? I can DEFINITELY promise you though that you would be able to train for a super sprint (aka "Try and tri" aka "Give it a Tri") in less than 6 months even if you're absolutely starting from scratch. It's usually about 350m swim, 10k bike, 2.5 k run (350yard swim, 6.1 mile bike, 1.5 mile run). Seriously? You can you totally do it. Also, see my response to Tina's comment.
Tina- virtual trainer? I hope you are asking seriously, because YES. I've been looking into how to get my CanFit certification so I can teach at a gym. If you would actually let me help you make a training plan? My life would be complete. Like. Email me.
I'm so jealous of people who can swim without, like, an inflatable frog wrapped around them.
Good luck with everything... hope you'll keep us posted!
The Toronto Marathon/Half sounds fantastic. Why does it have to be the same weekend as the Berlin marathon?
Wow. That is seriously incredible. Go Lisa!
Ha, and I'm all proud of training for my first 5K. You're dynamite.
it's too bad we don't live closer! i envy you for having those all planned out so far! good luck!
i felt exhausted just from reading this! haha no, but really, that all sounds incredible! i wish i could do all that!
(maybe someday) :)
I a so impressed as it's even hard for me to get up to go to the gym on a regular basis! You rock!
oooh i love how passionate and planned you are about this kind of stuff. Does it rubb off through blog comments?
That's really inspiring. Go, Lise! Thinking of going wall-climbing again. When I'm fit, maybe I'll run a marathon just to know I can.
That sounds awesome! I just planned my summer race schedule too, no triathlons, just running, but I'm ending with a bang in September - a full marathon!
Good luck, and I want to hear about all the races!
Woohoo!! They all sound awesome. I need to "try" a "Tri" one of these days... I'm still unsure of what my goals are for the fall (because of the school factor), but I'm working on a May 10-Miler right now.
Wow, I'm so impressed. Can't wait to hear about all these races. I will race vicariously through you, since I am clearly not a runner of any sort, haha.
understatement, but i'm so impressed (and now feel like a fat blob...oh yeah, I am.)
