Terrifying Self Reflection

In one of Mighty Girl's posts, she recently gave the piece of advice:

To choose a spouse, find someone who is flawlessly kind but has an incredibly strong backbone. See also: Marry him only if you will be proud when your child turns out just like him.

My friend Matt also once told me he lives by:

Be the person you want your (as of yet, unborn) kids to be.

I'm sorry, but are those not the most overwhelmingly terrifying pieces of advice you've ever heard?

Terrifying as in "there is no way I want my (as of yet, unborn) kids to do some of the things I did"?
Perhaps. But the advice makes sense.

Scary, but it is pretty good advice.

i think they're both great pieces of advice. although i can see how they would be intimidating if you're not ready to think about having kids!

I think they're great. The first one doesn't scare me because I'd be proud if my child (if I ever decide I want one) turned out like my husband. The second one though... scary.
