The Cheater

Okay so today I wrote my fourth of six exams. It was MODS 1. (Mechanics of Deformable Solids). Its a course I really enjoy but also struggle a bit with. It's weird because usually how well I do in a course is directly related to how much I like it. Never in my entire university career have I run out of time on an exam, and except for Physics in 1A, I've never even stayed to the end (unless I can't remember a specific time). I think I write fast because I either know stuff or I don't. If I know it I can go so fast, and if I don't know it then its kind of like... whatev, and I write some equations and draw and FBD and move on.

So today I ran out of time. It was open book and I just wasn't organized enough so I spent a lot of time flipping through papers etc. So, when the TA said time up, I sighed and put my pencil down. But the guy in front of my kept writing. I probably cocked my head and just watched him for a second. Then here's the conversation

Me: Hey, do you mind stopping writing? Time is up and everybody else would have liked extra time too
(no response)
Me (tap him on the shoulder): Seriously, its not fair
Him (WHIPS his head around): Yeah well I don't think its any of your business. Because its not your position to be watching over me, thats what proctors are for.
Me: Okay, cooool, well, I'm just saying-
Him: Have you ever heard of the phrase mind your own business? Because clearly you haven't
Me: Cool. Have you heard of cheating? Thats what its called when you keep writing when time is up

At this point the proctor overhears the curfuffle and comes and takes the guys paper.
Annoying though, hey? Like yeah, wouldn't we all like to keep writing. I think if I got called out by a classmate that I was still writing after time was up I'd be embaressed, and probably sheepishly be like "heh. heh, yeah, sorry" and drop my pencil like it was 873 degrees.

Well done.

I think you did what most people wish they could do. The rest of use just sit there and watch the inequity grow in front of our very eyes.
