Motivational Speaker?
Okay so ever since I discovered 43things, I've found myself getting all motivational speaker on people. Case in point: I love running and I'm not the fastest fastest fastest, but I keep improving. A friend of mine ran the same race as I did recently, and he killed me (by 4 and a half minutes). The worst part of that is that he hasn't run for a couple years, and I've been training pretty hard. Ps this tale is not about getting beat. I invited him to do this 10k race coming up in a couple weeks, and he said no because he wouldn't be able to keep his 4 mile pace for 6.2 miles. And I'm kind of like... well thats the point, its more of an endurance thing, just go slower. But he refuses to run the race because he knows he can't do as well. This is when I got all "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take...". I quickly realized I was getting a little too preachy, and shrugged off his attitude.
Only then on the subway home I shrugged it back on, backpack style, and thought about risks that I take. Sure I'm going path less traveled in a lot of ways, but is it because I know I can do it? Is there a race I'm not running because I know I can't place first? (ps we are talking figurative races, obviously, because I'm just dandy with not placing first in actual running races)
